President Barack Obama has welcomed leaders from across the African continent to the Nation’s Capital for a three-day U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit, August 04-06, 2014. The theme of the Summit is "Investing in the Next Generation."

As a part of the Summit on August 6, First Lady Michelle Obama, in partnership with former First Lady Laura Bush and the Bush Institute, will host a day-long leaders spouse’s summit at John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in Washington D.C. This collaboration is the continuation of the 2013 African First Ladies Summit, Investing in Women: Strengthening Africa held in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania in July 02-03, 2013 in which there was a conversation with First Lady Michelle Obama and former First Lady Mrs. Laura Bush moderated by Cokie Roberts.

The forum will address challenges and identify solutions for societal issues that face women and girls in the areas of education, health and economic opportunity.

Tanzania First Lady and WAMA Chairperson, H.E. Mama Salma Kikwete will participate in the summit to share her experience in supporting of women and girls of Tanzania through WAMA Foundation. H.E. Mama Salma Kikwete has been the Champion on the partnership for prevention of cervical cancer in Tanzania launched in Tanzania by Pink Ribbon Red Ribbon Initiative supported by Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Mama Kikwete is accompanied by WAMA Executive Secretary, Mr. Daudi Nasib and Dr. Sarah Maongezi, WAMA Director of Health Promotion.
